The Emile Hermes collection keeps many antique saddles. Among the selection is a Sino-Mongolian original from central Asia that dates from the later Qing period, circa 1832. The sumptuous saddle was clearly created for a personality of some importance and probably part of a set of harnesses intended for ceremonial use. Crafted in silk velvet, lapis lazuli, silver, coral and amber. In 2018, fascinated by this exceptional piece, Wlodek Kaminski designed a faithful reproduction in the form of a bandana. The friezes that border the carre mirror the chiseled decor of the saddle, and give a new dynamism to the design.
