The arabesque is obtained by the arrangement of wavy, swirling lines.
The knots composed of intertwined ropes, well known by the Leonardo DaVinci drawings, dating from the end of the 15th century, copied by Dürer around 1505-1507 and engraved on wood before 1521, are a perfect example of the intertwining and arabesque.
