When he set about creating this design, one of the house’s classics, printed for the first time in 1961, Henri d’Origny was inspired by a collection of 16th century bits and curb chains from France, Italy and Spain. This was the era in which equestrian art underwent a transition from a practice essentially focused on hunting or war to an art of display. Across Europe, academies were established, and riding treatises endeavored to teach dressage, which was perceived as a harmonious relationship between man and horse.
